Intro

A weigh platform helps weigh items being loaded into a truck. Workers place items onto the weigh platform and monitor the displayed weight until they complete loading or reach a limit. In conclusion, they print a ticket in duplicate. This gives the truck driver and the loading company a written record of load weight, time and date.

The Challenge

The weigh platform consists of four load cells.  Additionally, the customer wants to minimize wiring which can be damaged by trucks or the platform movement itself.

The Solution

Mantracourt provided a T24-SA telemetry strain gauge acquisition mounted in a sealed case.  This is coupled with internal batteries (2 x Duracell Alkaline DCells). This team mounted it near each loadcell with the device transmitting the data at a rate of one item per second. This gives a battery life of one year without having to turn off or sleep the measurement modules. A T24-SO serial out device sums the weight from these four sensors and displays the result on a large easily viewed LED display.

Subsequently, a thermal printer module houses a radio telemetry printer and display driver (the T24-SO) and a real-time clock module. This module also monitors the sensor data and prints two tickets containing the time, date and total weight along with company information. Finally, a push switch triggers the printout.
