Intro

A weigh platform is used to weigh items being loaded into a truck. Items are first stacked onto the weigh platform and the displayed weight watched until a limit is reached or all items are stacked. A ticket is then printed in duplicate, giving the truck driver and the loading company a written record of load weight and time and date.

The Challenge

The weigh platform consists of four load cells and the customer wants to minimize wiring which can be damaged by trucks or the platform movement itself.

The Solution

A T24-SA telemetry strain gauge acquisition mounted in a sealed case with internal batteries ( 2 X Duracell Alkaline DCells) is mounted near each loadcell with the device transmitting the data at a rate of one per second. This gives a battery life of one year without having to turn off or sleep the measurement modules. A T24-SO serial out device sums the weight from these four sensors and displays the result on a large easily viewed LED display.

A thermal printer module, which houses a radio telemetry printer and display driver T24-SO and a real-time clock module, also monitors the sensor data and prints two tickets containing the time, date and total weight along with company information. The printout is triggered by a push switch.
