Intro

Initially, Lotus Engineering, the consultancy division of Lotus Cars Limited, approached Mantracourt.  They were looking for us to provide a bespoke system of measuring torque on a steering column.  This system would need to replace a costly and fragile wiring arrangement. They requested that the replacement be a wireless link system that could be easily re-used.

The Challenge

Lotus required high frequency readings that could be transmitted wirelessly and then decoded and outputted as a scalable analogue output.  This output was required in order to integrate with its existing loggers and analytical tools.

The Solution

To begin with a technician fitted a T24-SAi strain acquisition module to the strain gauges mounted on the steering shaft.  Subsequently this transmitted readings at 200Hz. An engineer used a T24-AO1 analogue output module to provide ±10v output for the full-scale input on the acquisition module. Furthermore the T24-SAi simply pairs with the T24-AO1, which in turn connects to an existing data logging system. This system additionally features GPS to give accurate position data in order to correlate the strain readings. In conclusion, the T24-SA and T24-A01 provide a complete cable replacement.
