Intro
From time to time circumstances can prevent a person from driving a standard car. When this occurs, tests have to be carried out. These assess the driver’s ability to steer and brake so the vehicle can be adapted for use.
The Challenge
In particular, a customer needed a device to link to a laptop. This would enable assessments in any car (including the driver’s own car). The customer already had strain gauge attachments for the steering wheel and brake, so only needed the instrumentation and software.
The Solution
Strain gauge or load cell digitisers (DSC’s) monitored the steering torque and braking force of the driver. Whereas Mantracourt’s free software monitored these devices and provided the assessor with the ability to run multiple tests. The DSC devices were boxed, and powered and communicated via a USB cable.
