DSM-SSBY-B Open Card Digital Strain Gauge Digitiser
DSM-SSBY-B is an open PCB digital strain gauge module designed for OEM and machine-builder integration. It converts load cells, torque sensors and other strain-based sensors into digital CAN output devices, providing a flexible route from analogue strain measurement to modern control-system integration.
Built on Mantracourt’s DSM platform, the DSM-SSBY-B supports firmware-configurable communication, high-resolution 24-bit measurement, selectable update rates up to 1000 Hz, and advanced calibration options including gain/offset, multi-point and polynomial calibration.
Product Overview
DSM has been developed as a new platform architecture for digital strain measurement. Instead of using fixed-protocol hardware, DSM allows communication behaviour to be configured in software, helping OEMs and system integrators reduce product variation, simplify stock management and support different protocol requirements from a common hardware platform.
The module is suited to applications where strain gauge sensors need to be integrated directly into industrial control systems, vehicle platforms or distributed sensing networks. Its combination of digital CAN output, wide supply voltage range, advanced calibration and flexible form factors makes it suitable for both embedded sensor designs and rugged system-level installations.
Typical Applications
DSM is suitable for on-board load monitoring in electrified, agricultural and off-highway equipment, where overload protection, real-time load measurement and CAN-based system integration are required.
It can also be used by sensor OEMs to create embedded digital load cells or torque sensors, reducing the need for multiple digital product variants for different communication protocols.
For robotics and automation, DSM provides compact embedded options, high measurement rates and advanced calibration for force and torque sensing inside robotic joints, end effectors and high-value assemblies.
Additional applications include smart infrastructure monitoring, battery pack structural monitoring and industrial lifting or overload protection systems
Using the DSM Toolkit and the proprietry FlexiCAN protocol, the module can be configured to emulate almost any outgoing CAN message structure, including formats aligned with J1939, CANopen and other CAN-based protocols. This makes DSM a flexible option for OEMs and system integrators working with existing vehicle, machine or control networks.

Variants
- DSM-SSBY-A Disc
A compact 20 mm diameter embedded disc module for sensor OEMs, robotics and battery system applications. - DSM-SSBY-B Open Card
An open PCB card option for OEM and machine-builder integration where flexibility and embedded installation are required. - DSM-SSBG-A Enclosed
An enclosed format for off-highway, lifting and marine applications where a deployment-ready module is required.
Communication
DSM hardware includes CAN 2.0B, ISO11898-2 compliant CAN, with RS485 hardware provisioned. CAN bit rates from 10 kbit/s to 1 Mbit/s are supported, and protocol selection is firmware-defined using DSM Toolkit.
FlexiCAN is the launch firmware, with J1939, CANopen and RS485 planned as part of the communication roadmap.
Why Choose DSM?
DSM provides a modern migration path from Mantracourt’s legacy CAN-based digital products. Compared with the previous platform, DSM offers a wider supply voltage range, higher sampling capability, advanced calibration, remote temperature support and a multi-protocol roadmap based on a single firmware-configurable hardware architecture.
